Big Jato is a recent film by Pernambucan director Cláudio Assis (from Febre do Rato fame), based on a Xico Sá novel, staring Matheus Nachtergaele. At the 2015 Brasília Film Festival, it won prizes for best film, best actor and acrtress, best script and best soundtrack.
The story is about Francisco who spends his days accompanying his father on the road. His father drives the “Big Jato”, a caminhão-pipa (tanker truck) used to collect raw sewage from a Northeastern city without basic sanitation. But the boy is more interested in the ideas of his uncle, a libertarian-anarchist artist. Upon falling in love for the first time, the boy starts to see a future as a poet.
