There are American girls attracting attention on the hills of Olinda during this pre-Carnival period. A group of American students are learning to speak Portuguese through a cultural-linguistic program offered by ABA Global Education. The girls, originally from Calvin College in Michigan, study both at school and on the streets, about themes related to society, economics, gastronomy and Pernambuco’s Carnival.
Speaking of learning languages, Olinda gov’t is offering free classes in English, Spanish (and IT). There are 240 spots open but you’ll need an RG, CPF and proof of residence.
