Releitura PE – Community Libraries

In April 0f 2007, administrators behind four community libraries in Recife started to get together once a month. At first, the idea was to talk with each other about how to get more people (interested in) reading and to discuss theoretical questions related to reading. The group soon saw the need to discuss the libraries themselves, how they each function, what works and what doesn’t, etc, etc. Through the process of developing operational strategies and best practices, they saw the need for more books and, with the support of the Luiz Freire Cultural Center (site, under maintenance), they put on their first book donation campaign by late 2008.

Eventually, the network reached nine community libraries across Greater Recife. The libraries are as follows (I checked to see how current the list is and apparently it’s current):
