Two words I really like: escambo (barter) and sarau (informal cultural or musical event). Below, we’ll look at a group not too far from Recife that brings these two great ideas together.
Escambo Coletivo is a group of community action, created and managed by students, educators and artists, residents of the Paratibe neighborhood in Paulista-PE. Since 2009, the group has been active in the promotion of cultural activities in public spaces in the city, with the objective to stimulate, within the communities, interest in the concious and collective use of these spaces. To Escambo Coletivo, public spaces are essential for the consolidation of access to leisure and culture but only through the apropriation of people, these spaces can finally serve as spaces for social integration.
You can find them at their blog and on Facebook (links you can find at the bottom of my Links page). Last August, they celebrated 4 years. Congrats!
